When referring to televisual technology one can be observing the physical change of the televsion and its technologies or its interactive qualities with technology. In this blog I am going to discuss why 4k televisions will be the potential new norm for households. Samsung describes the 4k TV monitor to have 4x the resolution of the Full HD TV, 8.3 million pixels and a curve that creates a wider field of view thus giving the viewer a more cinematic and experience. Samsung says "become immersed in entertainment with the Samsung UHD 4k TV. With revolutionary curved screens and four times the resolution of Full HD TV. The key words here are revolutionary (change) and immerse (saturate). The thing about TV is we continue to watch it transform into this new phenomenon that consumes because it fills the void the older models did not have or did not do. The fact that this TV has more and better features that converge to a different specie of technology we need to focus on. Look at the involvement of TV from a big box with black and white picture, to a big box with color images, to a big box with a flat screen, to now a flat screen with color and high HD output, to a TV that is flatter then ever before with 8.3 million pixels ,a auto enhancer (identifies which images should be in the foreground/ background, and streaming straight from the TV.
In "Technology" by Johnston says "the development of information-processing technology has been nothing short of spectacular. For over twenty-five years, not only have, faster, more powerful machines been steadily produced, but new applications and new markets as well. (4k TVS new to market and expected to be popular in 3-5 years, refer to Televisual Reports link) Indeed, as is well known, the increase in computational power and speed. With the more recent mushrooming growth of the Internet the pressure has mounted to develop more and new types of networked information processing systems that operate on local, national and global levels simultaneously. But this new phase of development in information processing only makes glaringly obvious that has always been true: that information processing is at the heart of new and specific kinds of technical system, and instead of focusing on individual types of machines we need to be aware of both the multiplicity of computational assemblages that define this system and dynamic of forces impelling both its historical development and evolution."(Johnston 209)  Do I need to say more ? The television and computer have been advancing with each other along side and are pretty much same device adding each own diverse features to be present. The fact you can stream content right to your tv and Samsung's video pack which acts as a USB device so you can watch a selection of movies, clips , and documentaries from the USB. The convergence of these two different mediums (television and internet) are clear. "Its fills a niche and therefore is profitable" (Johnston 211) Technological evolution continues to grow and shape society. If you can picture the Darwin's theory of evolution scale in your mind right now, just imagine that TV's are evolutionizing in the chart instead of caveman, one can clearly see evolution from the first model to the present/near future models. Its quite a progression.
In "Televisions Next Generation" by Spigel and Olsson featuring William Urrichio tells us "never has the prospect of flow been rendered so effortless for viewers and programmers alike. The three components of Williams definition of flow-- differently related units; timing that is real but undeclared; and internal organization that is other than the declared organization . As should by now by clear, all three conditions are met and indeed intensified by by the new technological and cultural organization of the medium. Near-future scenarios promise that our televisions will be programmed from a potential pool of fifteen thousand programs per day and will be capable of storing weeks worth of material. Program diversity, limited only by only by our taste profiles, is guaranteed, as is complete program availability in a virtual present.(meaning its features that based on customer/viewer preferences)" (Urrichio 178)This is done here with streaming through the Samsung TV and the Samsung video pack. "As agency shift to this rapid growth in the power and presence of as-yet unheard of industries. (4k TV) I believe this is the future of the growing televison/computer world. Right now the price is the issue and the TV producers aren't yet using the 4k technology cameras just yet. But all things come in good time.
