Technology
has gradually developed over the past few decades and completely managed to
dominate every part of human life. The most influential form of technology is
the televisual technology that involves airing of content to the greater viewer
audience. The introduction and adoption of this form of technology has heavily
impacted on the various ways things are done in the society. Various programs have been introduced into
the schedule of viewing which have had a major impact on the viewing audience.
The
society has developed a perception in which they take everything they see on
television as the gospel truth, which is a dangerous characteristic. Adoption
of the various lifestyles seen in the movies is one of the major key problems
that face the modern society. The individual have no time to ascertain whether
the news or information they get is the correct one, but they just get into the
habit of copying them (James).
It
has been discovered that some of the programs aired have negative impacts on
the audience hence affecting the entire community. These programs were placed
under the one category known as “Reality Tv Shows.” Most of these shows depict
the different lives of various famous people in the world and how they get to
enjoy their money and fame. It is to be realized that these programs are mostly
watched by the younger generation who are eager to have a test of the “Sweet
life”. By watching of the reality shows, the younger generation is perplexed by
the way these individual have a “good life.” In an effort to attain the same
lifestyle they so much admire, the youth will find themselves in tight
positions engaging in illegal activities that may lead to their arrest or death
in some cases (James).
The
reality shows depict what they term as real, while in the real sense it’s a
staged performance. The general notion that the society has about reality Tv
shows should change. A larger percentage of the audiences who watch these shows
believe on the fact that these shows are a true reflection of how the specific
people live in the society. With the society’s tendency of emulating any thing
that has been watched, they will start to adopt the various lifestyles that
they see and take them as the gospel truth as they incorporate it into their
lives.
The
shows encourage plastic looks rather than natural looks. In most of these
shows, the participants have undergone some form of surgery in an effort to
enhance their beauty. This perception is
not good if adopted by most of the youth, as they will start believing that
they can only be attractive by use of various forms of plastic surgery
available. These shows have also the ability to change a person’s perception on
what is beautiful and what is not. In shows like America’s Top Next model, the
show had promoted the perception that beautiful girls are the slender ones as
it regarded anybody with an over-size body as being not attractive (Anonymous).
The
presence of reality TV shows in our homes has affected people’s perception on
various societal issues. The attitudes, lifestyles, morals and every other
aspect of the society have been replaced with what people have learnt from the reality
TV shows. This gives a brief explanation of why Moral decay has been on the
rise with the society referring to it as part of modernization. The effects of
televisual technology are evident in every pillar of our modern society as the
traditional pillars that promoted as morally upright society are quickly being
broken down and discarded. At the end of it all, we are left with nothing but a
broken society that we have to live in.
